Oyaaa, Wozza! Rada? Its another year, 2024. How are you doing?  Have other new year resolutions ama we’re recycling the previous ones? Nimenyamaza. I only got one: before the year ends, I’m recreating one of Chef wa Eastlando’s recipe, 2024 tunakemea pepo la mashakura.

 It’s the first Friday of the year and as the gods had planned, finally mans gets an off day, what a week? I started the year on a high note, but for today I’m reminiscing the week, alongside her highness mary-jane while listening to the New Sewersydaa Album ‘Maura Unit’. I can’t believe it’s only been a week since the new year begun, so much as happened, it already feels old. Ever had those days you’re busy running around but can’t explain what you have been doing? Kwanza the year started on a Monday, no time to waste banah!

 This is how this year feels. Do you remember that tension back in high school when you just reported in January, graduated to the next form, ata mono hawajakuja bado, hakujakuwa ata na Enta tujue nani anaketi wapi? Back then high school was gangster. And then there would be rumors backed by the fact that we haven’t seen his car or him for the two days we have been in school, that there is a new deputy head teacher. Everyone talking, waiting for the power shift, most importantly wondering how he/she will be.  

Kwanza tena it’s a leap year! Not your normal February, got anyone in my mind for valentines? Last year I spent my valentine’s day at a garage in Kariokor with Wambirianga who, for thirty minutes we were paying him to fix our vehicle, he was on call with his babe and I was eavesdropping nikiwa kiti ya nyuma ya manyanga pretending to be asleep. We’re changing that this time, tupate ata wa kupelekea yoghurt. Huyu aki cooperate, walai bye bye streets.

It feels like this year has so much to offer because it’s only been a week yet I’ve fed cows, nikachuna Kahawa and at some point, nilikuwa kwa mlango ya manyanga nikiitana “Nairobi, Kimbo 30” to my Matangi people on a cold Wednesday morning. Ironic though from Kimbo to Matangi via the same matatu will cost you twenty shillings, lakini ju ni asubuhi, masaa ya kwenda Nairobi, the goal is to save time at all costs, trying to beat early morning traffic, kwa hivyo ni kubeba mtu anaenda. By the way gari ni dollar, tusisumbuane, zoea bei mapema.

Brace yourself, we’re going to have a wonderful year together. Unaona sasa mambo ni laivu. Hii ndo ile mwaka tulikuwa tumengoja and if you have some time, listen to Chief Gweithist by Sewersydaa, thank me later.
